what defines you

Whew! It’s been awhile since a post! I think that I’ve been so sucked up into Instagram with it providing the satisfaction I need for the ‘shoot from the hip’ instant post followed by timely reciprocation, I’m afraid I’ve let my blog slip a bit! However, in the last two months, I have been collaborating with the hair stylists from Rendezvous Hair Salon on their business cards, by far improving the collective perception of the salon and stylists as a whole. The whole project stemmed from an early morning brainstorming session with Rachel Lawrence. She was so stoked to show me her latest creation, deemed ‘mermaid hair’. She had taken the time to work with her model and create a portfolio image that could be used also for business cards. Her excitement inspired my creativity and I decided to offer my photographic services to the other stylists.

My email below… (mind you the grand opening was NYE)

I’m writing to just throw out an idea, I’m a huge supporter of branding and uniformity among a business. One way this can be executed is to create business cards that follow the same concept look and “feel”.
So I wanted to project this idea to everyone that wants or needs new cards for the new salon. I want to work with each one of you to create a fashion/beauty image that best represents you and your style. I will collaborate with you and your vision and push our creativity to make this happen. If everyone participates Not only will it provide an amazing display for our clients, you will be represented far better than vista print can do, but this could help me as a creative that thrives on collaborations to produce amazing images.
The Grand Opening is the goal to have these done!
Let’s create!!

This was quickly followed by… Lindsay Hearts, manager of Rendezvous.

Thank you Mandi!!

As a bonus, if these are all done by Thanksgiving, I will pay for half of the cards.

P.S. – Mandi, dont forget yours!!

So needless to say, the ball got rolling extra fast! Soon after the first 3 images were shot, I came to the realization that I am currently holding down two+ jobs, aiding in the relocation and build out of the salon, as well as me focusing on completing my new permanent cosmetic room, oh, and it was the holidays?! It became obvious that I was going to be in over my head and probably wouldn’t meet the projected deadline without a little pre-press and pre-flight assistance. This led to the beginning of a beautiful collaboration with a friend, fellow photographer/editor and graphic designer Jonathan Maupin.

Below are the images, some raw and some edited along with a snap shot of the final cards. Final images can be seen in book 2 of my portfolio.

– All card concepts courtesy of the stylists. I was merely the executor. Thank you to everyone for a great collaboration!!! xo
